“Modern Day Scribes Arise!”
by Amanda Wells, Brisbane, Australia

While I was in the UK recently, I saw in the spirit two massive angels. One held a book and the other held a massive pen. I asked who they were, and they said, “We are scribe angels and we have been released on the Body of Christ for such a time as this.”

As I started to pray about this and dig further, God started to show me what He wanted to do in this time, and for many with God given assignments to write!

The Scribe

In Biblical times, the scribe held a position of great authority in both the Roman Empire and in the nation of Israel. Scribes were the writers who wrote the decrees of those who were in authority, and in Israel this included Scripture.

Jesus said scribes had a particular role and they were the ones who brought forth new treasures. Matthew 13:52, “And He said unto them, therefore every scribe who hath been made a disciple to the Kingdom of Heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.”

The words in Greek bring forth is ekballo and it means to tear open with force, to draw out, and also it can mean to transfer from the one sending to the one receiving. Treasure in Greek is thesauros and a thesaurus means words that have specific meanings.

Jesus saw the role of the writer as one who drew out and tore open new treasure, which He said was in Words! In times past, we used writing implements but today we use technology.

This Generation of Writers

As I prayed, I saw these angels releasing men and women and even YOUNG CHILDREN to tear open the veil that has been over the treasure of words, hidden from the past generation, and now the secrets of the revelation of the treasure/words is opened to this generation.

Modern Day Scribes

God is releasing treasures to journalists and writers in this day. The sphere of media today has had enormous authority in shaping culture and even swaying government decisions.

God is raising up modern scribes in the Church who will reshape the culture into the culture of Kingdom. God is releasing an authority on them and they will begin to have such influence through the medium of videos, blogs, books, columns and articles in magazines and papers.

The pen will become their pulpit and they will begin to shape the culture of the next generation. It’s time for those who have felt to write – to write and to encourage those journalists in our midst to tear open the veil to uncover the hidden secrets in the treasure of words in this season!

In the days of old, the Gospel always followed the trade routes. Even looking today, we see the revival that occurred on the Roman Road, the Silk Road etc., and these routes became the communication network of their day! The Reformation of Europe was spread through this form of communication, through the printing press.

We are entering into a time of revival and the reformation. The landscape of nations is changing and the preachers in this reformation will be the modern day scribes! There is always a vacuum of authority that comes just before revival and reformation, and people scramble to find leadership.

God is raising leaders in the Modern Day Scribes. They can gain huge followings on social media, and He is raising up those who will submit to Him, hear His voice, and bring out treasure! The scribes of the Kingdom of Heaven will be sound in Biblical truth and have integrity and holiness as their mark. These men and women will be bold in sharing perceptions from a Kingdom perspective and draw out the secrets of our time through words.

It is time for the scribes, the journalists, bloggers, authors, and those who know they are to write a book, a blog, an article, etc., – to arise in the authority of the assignment and tear the veil that is over the eyes of this generation and dig out the treasure of the words He placed within you.

It’s time to write! It’s time to arise and take hold of the new assignment you have been given and see the authority of God come upon you.

Rick Joyner: Modern Scribes – Bring Forth New and Old Treasures

by Rick Joyner
May 8, 2013

Steve ShultzFrom the desk of Steve Shultz:

I’ll be honest with you. Before I read this article by Rick Joyner, I’d never given much thought to the modern-day scribes. Jesus spoke a number of times to scribes, even pronouncing “WOE” on some of them:

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!”
Matthew 23:23-24, NKJV

We often think of “hypocrites and Pharisees” and we determine not to act like they acted. But the “scribe” was given Jesus’ same warnings…

Hint: Some of you reading this, you will discover, are actually SCRIBES yourselves. Read on to find out if you are…and if so, how well are you fulfilling your calling?

Rick Joyner wrote

Bring Forth Treasure – New and Old

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians that not many were wise or strong in this world who were called. However, he did not say there were not any. Paul was of the elite of this world in both learning and wealth. He sacrificed it all for the Gospel and considered it a small price to pay.

In Biblical times, a scribe was a position of significant authority in both the Roman Empire and the nation of Israel. Scribes were writers who wrote the decrees of those who were in authority. In Israel, this included the copying of Scripture. It is interesting that Jesus addresses this specific group concerning discipleship in Matthew 13:52:

The Cross“Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the Kingdom of Heaven is like a head of a household, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.”

We see by this that Jesus was expecting scribes to become disciples of the Kingdom, and indeed many did. To this specific group, He exhorts them to bring forth treasure from both the new and the old. This is an important consideration for the Great Commission because it is the only specific group the Lord addresses in relation to becoming disciples of the Kingdom.

Modern Scribes and Pulpit

Because of technology, we don’t really have scribes today, but the group that would at least loosely connect with them are journalists and writers. The media today does have a great deal of authority in shaping culture and even government policy. Some believe their influence is even greater than that of government. How could our culture be shaped if the modern scribes were to become disciples of the Kingdom?

We need to also consider the authority of modern scribes in the Church. The influence of the secular media is great and worthy of much discussion, but I am speaking here of the Christian media. The influence of Christian television is substantial worldwide. Videos are huge now and can have substantial influence, as do websites, blogs, and of course, books and radio. The modern pulpit is no longer the wooden stand in our meeting places—it is electronic.

In the first century, the Gospel followed the trading routes, which was the communication network of the times. The Reformation had been simmering for centuries, but when the printing press was developed and the Bible was the first thing to come off of it, the Reformation burst into flames all across Europe. Technology and communication networks have been the path the Gospel has flowed along from the beginning, and it will be to the end. The important factor is who is using it—the preachers who stand behind the modern pulpit—the modern scribes.

There are many positives and negatives with this modern pulpit. Certainly we can now reach many more people, and much faster, but what are we reaching them with? There is very little filtering of what is on the Internet, and many people actually believe almost everything they read on the Internet. Much of what is put out could only be called spiritual junk food if we’re being generous. Some are putting poison in what they serve.

At the same time, there are few watchmen or shepherds with the international stature needed who will even address many of the most crucial issues of our times. So, as usual, the vacuum is filled by those who are not called, do not have the authority, and often end up doing as much damage as the enemies of the Gospel.

Hearing His Voice Through Treasures

So what do we do? First, as disciples of Christ, we must learn to receive our instruction from Him. For this reason, we are not just seeking to hear the words of the Lord as much as we are seeking to hear the Word, Himself. He must be our Teacher, and we must know His voice well enough that we will only follow Him. Do we hear His voice in those we are receiving instruction from?

Now we have people who can gain large followings on the Internet who could not even lead a home group in a valid church or fellowship. Journalists can presume to have authority in areas they have little or no experience or education in just because they are articulate or good writers. Many in the Church, or in Christian media, presume that because they are good with words, spoken or written, they have authority. If we are going to be disciples of the Kingdom, we must learn to recognize true Kingdom authority, and learn when we have it and when we don’t.

We begin by returning to the Lord’s exhortation to scribes who would become disciples of the Kingdom of Heaven. They were to bring forth treasures—no junk food, but only the best for God’s household. Then we must bring forth treasures that are both new and old. The scribes of the Kingdom of Heaven will have deep roots in sound Biblical truth, with a historic perspective rooted in honoring fathers and mothers because this is a basic characteristic of the Kingdom. Also, they will be capable of bold new perspectives of such quality that they, too, are “treasures.”
